Laid back Raglan is an unspoilt town in the region of Waikato. Offering world class surf beaches and awesome scenery. Ocean View is just a short 5 - 10 min walk into town where you will find quirky shops, excellent restaurants and cafes. There is always something going on so whether it's listening to live music in the YOT club or sampling freshly caught fish and chips on the wharf, you will not be disappointed
SURFING
Raglan is known for its internationally renowned surf beaches, and there are options galore for the experienced and learners alike. If you’re just starting out, there are surfing lessons year-round, and you can hire all the gear you need in town – some gear is even available directly on Main Beach.

KAYAKING/PADDLEBOARDINGCloser to town, Raglan is surrounded by flat water and beautiful inlets to be explored. You can hire all the equipment you’ll need, and you can explore on your own, or join in on one of the regular guided tours that will take you through all the best local spots, and past the famous pancake rock formations. Picnic on a secluded beach and explore all the nooks and crannies of our beautiful harbour.

FISHINGRaglan is home to some of the best fishing in New Zealand. Launch from the boat ramp at the wharf, or from Manu Bay. Parking is available for free at both ramp. You’ll need to watch the tides to launch from Manu Bay, but there is the advantage of not having to cross the notoriously dangerous Raglan Bar. If you’re launching from Raglan, please ensure you’re up to speed with the rules and guidelines for doing so by contacting the Raglan Coastguard and learning more about it here.
If you don’t have a boat, you can fish from the wharf, the shore and the rocks – please ensure you follow safety protocols and tell someone where you’re going. Fishing regulations, including daily limits and minimum fish size can be found here, or pop into the bait shop |
SHOPPINGRaglan is home to a wonderful collection of local shops, ranging from designer clothing to art galleries to craft stores to surf gear, and much more. Take a day to explore the town, and on the second Sunday of each month there is the Raglan Creative Market held at the Raglan Old School Arts Centre, a short 10 minute walk from Ocean View. Markets are also held on other Sundays throughout the year, see the website for more information.

FOOD & COFFEEWhether you’re looking do dine in, take out, or get eat fish and chips on the beach, Raglan has some thing for you. Raglan is known for it’s café culture, and even has it’s very own coffee roastery, Raglan Roast, which is popular throughout the wider Waikato and New Zealand – you can find Raglan Roast on Volcom Lane. If it’s more than coffee you’re after, check out The Shack or Rock-It Kitchen. For dinner, you can’t go wrong with Isobar or The Wharf Kitchen and Bar. ). If you want good old fish and chips, Raglan Fish, located right on the wharf are our favourite, with fresh fish daily and delicious kumara chips.

RAINY DAY ACTIVITIESIf the weather’s not playing ball, don’t worry, there is plenty to do indoors as well. The library is a great place to hang out and offers free wifi. As mentioned above, there are a lot of shops worth checking out in town, with local brands shining in particular. Raglan has seven art galleries to check out, a museum, a yoga studio, a gym, and all those delicious cafes mentioned above too. The YOT Club often has live music, and the beer is pretty good too!
